Presently in India, outdated instrumentation techniques are used in conjunction with schedule-based visual inspections to monitor the integrity of structures but such exercises are highly unreliable and untimely. In this paper we touch upon the benefits of real time structural health monitoring and the latest advances in technology which have achieved high levels of accuracy and reliability at a reasonable cost.

Why Structural Health Monitoring?

​​High-rise buildings, stadia, ports, pipelines and historical monuments are complex structures. They are comprised of multiple elements and components that become stressed and interact with one another when exposed to external phenomena. Structures also vary widely in size, geometry, construction materials and foundation characteristics. These attributes influence how a building performs under stress natural events and planned usage or when utilized beyond planned capacity.







The aim of monitoring is to increase knowledge on the structural behaviours and highlight the potential of Structural Health Monitoring Systems for Bridge Maintenance and safety.

  3. Dr Vinayak Dixit is working along side Junckit Systems to develop a world first cheap and efficient adaptive signal controller that collects real time traffic data and allocates cycle timings
